Prednisone and side effects

I recently was put on cellcept and I had some reactions. So my dr has now put me on a low dosage prednisone (5 mg) for a couple months then we will try another medication. My question is those of you who are on prednisone are you finding it does give you some relief? And are you having any side affects?

I’m not on prednisone now, but I’ve had a bunch of times where I’ve been on it for short stretches (1 week to a month or so). At high doses of 60mg/day I get palpitations. My doctor is fine with that, and that does is never more than a week. At lower doses I get no side effects at all.

That said, I had a rough stretch the last few years, and I was on prednisone at higher doses, for longish periods of time, repeatedly. I already had a cataract in one eye. Well, within that time I developed a cataract quickly in the other eye, and the first eye got pretty bad. I actually just had the first cataract surgery recently. By the way, it’s not such a bad thing. I’ve worn glasses since forever, and no longer need to wear them.

Sorry, long story short, I wouldn’t be concerned about 5mg/day of prednisone a day over a stretch of time.

I was on low dose prednisone for about 8 mins for a flair that wouldn’t quit. The only thing I noticed after the initial adjustment was some insomnia. With that low a dose, I only gained a couple pounds (which fell off when I came off them).
Doc is careful about not using them except when absolutely necessary so we have them as backup when needed.

Thank you both for your input. I haven’t seen any side effects. I already have some sleep issues with the Sjogrens so I can’t attribute it to the prednisone.

Isn’t insomnia lovely? Lol
