Do any of you have any natural things that help with an overactive brain? It doesn't matter how tired I am, as soon as I go to bed, my brain just races and obsesses over EVERYTHING and I can't sleep. I just got some magnesium glycinate - I read it's supposed to helpful you relax. I just tapered off cymbalta and gabapentin so I really want to go natural if I can. I've had Sjogren's for several years. As you all know all the drugs they give you for sleep makes your dryness even worse. Thanks for any advice!
Sorry to hear you are dealing with insomnia. It definitely seems to be a part of autoimmune. As always, I am going to remind everyone to speak with your doctor before trying any kind of supplement. They work because they have an effect on the body. In our case, it can be adverse. Even "simple" things like melatonin can increase anxiety if someone already suffers with that. I am posting a link that I use with clients fairly often, adding to avoid electronics (games, etc) for at least 2 hours before going to bed. They activate a part of the brain that takes a few hours to shut off. Hope this helps….

You might have sleep apea. I didn't think I did because I don't snore. you spend a night there and they have all these wires on you, but my test showed that I woke up 29 times an hour and now I have been on it 2 years and I average 7 times an hour. I used to tell my husband that I got more exercise at night because of the tossing and turning.

I guess that would be something I could check out. I don't snore either because I never sleep! My husband is on a c-pap machine and it has helped him. But he says it dries his eyes out real bad. How does that affect your sjogrens? Does it stop your brain from racing?

Thanks- I will check out that link. Yes melatonin does not agree with me at all!
Meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques can help the racing brain. So can journaling. Write down the things on your mind, remind yourself that you cannot do anything about them in the middle of the night and that they are on the list so they won't be missed. Then allow yourself to rest. If it is anxiety that keeps you up, talking to a counselor and medical doctor can help too.
When I saw a physio for neck pain which was affecting my sleep she recommended Yoga Nidra to help get to sleep- you can have a look on youtube and use that to help.
Thx to all for your suggestions
