Unbearable itching

I am having a nightmare of a night! Neck and upper chest are unbelievable! I have an itch that is deep and painful. I’ve tried ice, hydrocortisone, (and scratching)to no relief! I know it is likely the thyroid, I just need it to stop!

Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’ve scratched it raw. Its keeping me awake

I do have a quick question first. You said it is deep and painful. Does it feel like its coming from up under the skin rather than actually on the surface? I only ask because I have neuropathy caused by SS and that was how it felt in the beginning. I couldn't figure out what was happening at first. I used to swat at mosquitos that weren't there. LOL. It may be worth asking your rheumy about.

I make my own facial cleanser & facial moisturizer with coconut oil. I also make a body scrub from the stuff left after making my cleanser. For the moisturizer I melt the coconut oil and add vitamin E oil and then let it solidify again. For the cleanser I put about a cup of oats in the food processor and try to get it as fine as I can. I then add brown sugar, cinnamon, coconut oil, a little olive oil, and a little vitamin E oil. I mix this well and strain through a fine strainer. Let this solidify and it's good to go. With what is left I add a little more coconut oil and use as a body scrub. The scrub helps with dead & flaky skin and the oil in it sooths the skin. The facial moisturizer could be used anywhere on the body but it is oily so protect your clothing and such.

Yes!!! Its a very deep painful itch! It is around the goiter and down into that “V” area at the upper chest! Ice helped very little, hydrocortisone did nothing there is no rash, pimples or scaley skin.

The goiter feels like it is choking me, and feels like it is into chest as well as growing towards right ear. Although I know it isn’t, but I have pain from ear to shoulder. I don’t have rhuemetologist yet, until thyroid started misbehaving, I had thought I didn’t need one. After reading on several boards, I now know its a necessary evil.
Hopefully Medicaid will transport or pay tp travel.its an hour away. :frowning:
My diagnosis for all of this is relatively new. Only four months. Which is when problems started.

Butler!!! Omgoodness! I love that you shared this! Although the neck seems to be more than dry skin, I #DO have need to slather on moisturizers of all types! I an going to be giving your recipe a try! I have basically used just waterand moisture rich shampoo to shower fir years now.
My face has been my biggest nightmare! Its soooo dry!

Dawn, I know what you mean about yet another doc being a necessary evil. It took a few rounds but I have a team of people around me that I am comfortable with and that helps a great deal. (I have heart issues, asthma, allergies, etc on top of SS and its related neuro issues). I wish you luck in finding yours. Please keep us posted as it really does sound like your issue isn't skin deep, but something else altogether.

Also....The docs think I have had SS for over 10 years but was only finally diagnosed this past March. And my issues have multiplied since then. I think sometimes it isn't caught until the disease has kicked into high gear, which is why all these odd things come right behind it.

If I were to need to guess when sjs started, I would have to say between 18-20. This is when all my dry everything started. Migraines, sinus and bronchial were daily troubles. I also had the first of three placental abruptions.

I went to docs multiple times for dry mouth, dry eyes,“asthma” , infections, you name it! As a Military dependant they would do a few tests and send me on my way. Lol not until July this year, did anyone ever really listen. But they had too, as I had bunnion so sore and painful. As well I couldn’t hold anything in my hands. Two months after a goiter, tremmers, and high blood pressure followed.

I’ve had an itch from time to time on my chest area that was relatively bad…although probably a little less intense than what you describe from what I can gather. I found an OTC cream called Sarna to be helpful. Good luck and keep us posted.
