Work

Good morning all. I was diagnosed with sjogrens two years ago. I am wondering how everyone is doing with working? I work a full time desk job right now and I am so exhausted by the end of the day I hardly have the energy to deal with my family which really sucks! (I'm only 32!) I am from Canada and I was wondering if there are any other members also from Canada, that would have any ideas on help or insurance that would help me out if one day I wouldn't be able to work anymore.

It’s going to be really variable, especially since autoimmune diseases tend to run in packs. I do not work full time, but this was originally done to be a stay at home mom. Post diagnosis it meant that I could nap with my kids, and now it means that I work, but jobs with flexible schedules, and the ones with fixed schedules are just a few hours at a time.

Fatigue has been a real ongoing problem for me.

Yes it seems that is my worst problem. I just switched to a much less stressful job but it still requires full time hours. I was on a medication for a while but the side effects made me suicidal and my rheumatologist said until I start having other issues that was really the only medication for me to take.

I am from Canada, I work a full time job, and I know exactly how you feel. I have 4 kids and by the time I come home I am too tired to take care of them. The thought of even making decisions makes me want to cry. It sucks cuz they just want to show me what they did at school but I honestly feel so tired I just want them to go away

Also I am only 33

How have you done with Brain fog? I have issues with it but not all the time. Seems like that it is a lot worse when i am especially tired. I will be talking and completely forget what I was saying or talking about right in the middle of a sentence.

Oh yea I have brain fog pretty bad, really sucks at work cuz I feel like I look stupid. I have certain phrases and stuff I use a lot with clients but sometimes they just fall out of my brain. Then left sitting there looking like I don’t know my job, it’s embarrassing. Do you have any issues with numbness at all? Sometimes my arms go numb, that makes work pretty hard too. Legs go numb too sometimes but I can hide that a bit better

So far I just get achy in my hands and wrists. I will get some numbness there when I go to bed at night, that's when it seems to hit me the worst. If I don't drink enough water throughout the week I get super wicked calf cramps.

I get those too! Is that why? I keep eating bananas cuz everyone tells me that’s the problem but it doesn’t seem to be going away, maybe I will try upping my water intake and see if that helps

Angie- have you gotten checked out for the numbness? That sounds fairly extensive, and I would want to have a few things ruled out, especially if you have weakness as a part of this.

Chantelle,

I too work full time and times like today it seriously sucks. I had a rough weekend and I'm so tired and feel like I'm going to throw up, but here I sit knowing that when I get home all I'll want is my bed. We need my paycheck AND I'm the one that carries insurance on the entire family, so what to do is the question. I missed a lot of work last year trying to find answers (which were not found). I too suffer from the brain fog. Some days are worse and doing accounting...oh boy that sucks! I've started to get very cold right hand that is very stiff, so if you find answers, please post. I'm not from Canada, so I can't help with that.

I have gone through flair ups where I feel totally the same way - hung over with no good story to tell. LOL. Those are the days when people who don't know I have anything wrong are saying I look tired or ask if I'm coming down with something. I am a divorced mom (thankfully he just graduated college) and I am working 2 jobs to keep up with things. My full time job is my insurance supplier too so I am kinda stuck. I am glad that I absolutely love my second job….it makes it easier. I can say that when my meds are all balanced and I'm not flared up the fatigue is lessened greatly.

I will say that diet and cardio exercise helps a lot with keeping flairs at bay. Which diet exactly will depend on your system individually but it does help once you find it. Hang in there. Sending gentle hugs.

No had to stop work going to apply assistance. MY muscles and joint pain, brain fogs just name a few are so bad, sometimes I feel like giving up. The Grace of God keeps me going though .
