Bad Visit to the Dentist

Sorry we're getting off topic from the original post. My prescription is partially covered, but compounded items aren't on any list, so they are only partially covered, after a $50 co-pay.

Hello stoney, I use Restasis and two other eye drops , question do you go to an eye specialist ,because I do and if you have a letter stating that you condition is medically necessary your scripts should be cover , but have to go to a specialist. Wish you luck!!

I think this is all helpful information.

Kim,If you don't mind,I would like to put you on my prayerlist and ask God that the dental college will help you...or maybe he has something else entirely in mind.

My eyedrops are a generic copay: $5.00 for now. I am so relieved by this (mine are for glaucoma-which I got as a result of Sj.)

I would love to be on a prayer list. All prayers help! Thank you so much!

Hi Kim-

So sorry to hear about your teeth problems. I know lots of us have the same issues and wanted to pass along a couple of things that seem to help me. My Dentist gave me a product called PreviDent by Colgate. It’s a fluoride rinse you use before you go to bed at night - helps keep the germs at bay. Also, I do something that might seem weird, but I swear by it - I use coconut oil to do something called oil rinsing. You put the coconut oil in your mouth (it’s solid at first, but quickly melts) and swish it around for 10 - 15 minutes. It takes some getting used to, so you might have to work up to that much time. You need to push and pull the oil through your teeth and keep it moving. You need to spit some out from time to time as your mouth gets full (saliva mixes in). Trust me - I know it sounds weird, but it really helps keep my mouth clean and breath fresher much longer (which is difficult with dry mouth). I hope this helps some of you!

Hi, Miss Maggie. I will check out Prevident. Thank you. And no, I don’t think the coconut oil thing is bizarre. I’ve read about it before but thought it was just someone else jumping on the coconut oil as a cure all bandwagon. But, if it helps you, I will certainly try it. What have I to lose? Perhaps I missed it, but how much coconut oil do you use? Thank you for your care, Kim

Had dental issues a lot during my life, despite taking good care of my teeth. Can't win sometimes. I just had dental surgery yesterday to repair a dental implant on front tooth. I had it placed four years ago, and then out of the blue several months ago, my body began rejecting the graft material. These autoimmune diseases really mess things up.

My dentist told me not to use baking soda, that it takes off the enamel on the teeth. I used to use it once in awhile but maybe it's too abrasive. Don't know. I just ordered Squiggle toothpaste. I wondered if anyone has tried that? I chose the one for sensitive teeth.

I have used the "oil pulling" with coconut oil. It helps a lot.

Ally

Oops - if this gets posted twice, please forgive me - I had answered and hit the “go” button instead of “add reply”… I use about a teaspoon of the coconut oil. And don’t be discouraged if it seems impossible to do it for the 10 - 15 minutes. I had to overcome the gag factor at first. I find it’s easiest to do while I’m taking my shower in the morning. If you’re really dedicated you should do at night, too, but I never seem to do that. You’re supposed to brush your teeth after - which you’ll want to do anyway : )…

I know that people swear that coconut will do all sorts of stuff like detox, cure everything - which I don’t buy. But it does seem to help keep my mouth cleaner! Let us know how it works for you!

Ally, I see “Squiggle” has a toothpaste for sensitive teeth… And boy, are my teeth sensitive. I’ll ask my dentist about it. Also, thank you for your input on using the coconut oil. I bought some not that long ago and will use it starting tonight.

I think I can handle a teaspoon full… It’s the ten to fifteen minutes of swishing I feel will take some patience and diligence. I’ll give it my best shot!

Kim 6,

Yes, I ordered the "sensitive" Squiggle. It should be here any day now. I read somewhere about not spitting the coconut oil down your drain after your through swishing it in your mouth. It may clog up your drain, so better to spit it out down the toilet. Makes sense, some oils do harden up at a certain temperature.

Good to know about the coconut oil in the drain! Thx.

Good idea about spitting in the toilet - I’ve worried about stopping up our drains so I keep a small bottle of dish washing soap by my sink and squirt it in the sink after I spit. I think I’ll try the toilet from now on. Thanks!

We just have to watch out for backsplash when spitting in the toilet. LOL

lol Oh, I know! You are right, I don't spit too hard. So far I haven't got hit with any. Gross.

If Ibrush my teeth with coconut oil, I make sure I run really hot water so it will go down the drain better. But I'm hoping the Squiggle toothpaste will be a winner.

I have been oil pulling with coconut oil for a year now and I will keep doing it. I quickly worked up to 20 minutes and that is what I try to do. I do it at least twice a day and when my mouth gets sore from dry mouth, I may do it 4 times. It has been such a help! I use a lump - chew it to melt it and then swish. I spit it out into a dixie cup that I keep on the counter and just throw it in the garbage when it is full. I usually rinse with salt water.

Good to know Felter. I like the Dixie cup idea. I’m liking the good feedback about the coconut oil. Thank you.

I also have massive decay…I get one tooth out once a month…there is better chance of healing with no teeth than root canals…root canals can become reinfected…no teeth…no problem…I eat softer foods…I also have some front teeth…but when they come out…there are a new kind of dentures. …my maintenance is garggle with peroxide…break down with water…works so so good…lots of dentist charge $2oo to pull…good luck…I live on east coast of US…

Yes, my mouth looks like a dental students best dream. It took 2 years and an uneasy relationship with my dentist that a visiting dentist pointed the fact that I had Sjogrens....there had beeen many other problems with my tougue and dry eyes before it was all put together. So I had my 3 new cavities filled and got a clean bill of inspection this last 6 mon. period.

I do brush ny teeth 3 times a day, use floss and the must is chewing sugarless gum to promote saliva Must promote saliva at all times, without saliva there is not protection from decay..........just another job keeping the body in shape.
