Hello. Glad I found this site:)

Hello, I was just diagnosed last week and trying to gain information and support. I’ve probably had it for a few years, but it came to a head when I got bite by a spider in June. Hospitalized for 11 days with sepsis. Fast foward 6 months later…here I am with a leg wound that would not heal, continues to burn down my leg with ankle and foot pain…along with other joint pain. Eye issues. And my hair is falling out in clumps! (thyroid antibodies) I am so tired all the time. I started on Plaquenil 200mg twice a day. I have read that it takes months to take start feeling better. Any suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated:)

It sounds like you’ve had a rough time lately.

With any of these meds, they can take time to work. When I was started on plaquenil what I first noticed was that my fatigue was lessened after a month plus. Are you going to a wound care center? That’s pretty serious stuff, a non-healing wound.

I hope some of the fatigue lessens that soon! yes, it has been a rough 6 months. I went to wound care for 4 1/2 months. It was actually the wound care doctor that sent me to rheumatologist, felt something else was going on because it wouldn’t heal. It finally closed, still have skin issues on the lower leg though. I was pretty healthy before the spider bite.

Woo, mimmy, that’s nasty. We’re glad you found us as well, and look forward to getting to know you better.

Oh wow!!! Bless your heart!! Plaquenil does take time to build up in your system. I have been on it 5 months tomorrow and it took me til about the 4 month mark before I started feeling anything. But we are all different and you might not take so long to build it up in your system. I take a slew of other meds and I think that may have had something to do with it taking so long.

My advice to you (until the plaquenil kicks in) is to rest WHENEVER you need to!!! If you can only clean house for 15 minute stretches without a break…SO BE IT!!! It WILL get better. You just have to be patient. I know that can be hard sometimes. But hang in there!! And know you are NOT alone!!!

Anytime you need to vent, this is the place! Because at one time or another…we’ve all been there or will be there soon!!

Take care
Merry Christmas!

thank you Lisa:) Merry christmas to you too :santa:

Wow…I am so sorry to hear. Sounds like it set off quite a chain reaction. As the others have said, Plaquenil can take time to build up in the system and start really working but for me, it has really helped. Listen to your body and don’t feel bad saying you can’t do something. Pushing yourself rarely works out for the best with SS. Take care of you!
