No, but I follow Dr Mercola on Facebook and he only favors juicing vegetables. I do this sometimes, but I just find it tastes much better with a small amount of fruit. Yes, starting out small worked for me SK. I hope this method works for you. BTW, sometimes for a dessert, I’ll drink a very small amount of the premade Naked Green Machine. This has lots if sweet fruit in it, so I know it’s not ideal, but it also has a wide variety of veggies. The funny thing is kids live it …if they can get past the green color. This is clearly a dessert in my mind, but healthier than cake (I think). Anyway, good luck KS!
Oh. Years and years ago I read “Fit for Life” by Harvey Diamond and his wife. He said that about only eating fruit only and at least thirty minutes before other foods. He also said it was best to eat fruit and only fruit in the morning. I did this for awhile years ago and it WAS helpful with my digestion! Hmmmm
My grand kids are always wanting me to make them virgin daiquiris, pina coladas, any type of smoothies, so they would probably love anything like that! Thanks for telling me about Dr Mercola!
I can't get over how fortunate I am to have been diagnosed for Sjogrens relatively fast. I was also in a car accident a year and a half ago that I've never quite recovered from. I have a lot of issues with my back still. From the day of my accident I complained about dry mouth. All I heard was it's your meds. My mouth was so bad that the insides of my cheeks were raw and the sides of my tongue would get big cracks and bleed and eating??? OMG it burned and hurt so much I would be in tears. One day I entered the words "cracked tongue" into my tablet and lo and behold there were 200 pictures of my tongue!!! So I began researching Sjogrens before I was diagnosed and knew that's what I had. I did see an ENT who looked in my mouth and said, "There's no need to run tests...you have Sjogrens." He went on to explain that tests frequently come back negative even when the evidence is right before your eyes. This had probably been coming on for a couple of years and in hindsight I agree. I think my car wreck and medications may have accelerated it considerably. But all told it was around 3 or 4 months to get the diagnosis, and I have an upcoming appointment with a Rheumatologist to get the final confirmation. I have been on Pilocarpine for 2 months but I'm not sure it's done a lot but it can take awhile before you see results. Jeez, just can't win sometimes! My heart goes out to those of you who are getting the run-around, or are seeing an ass of a doctor. All you can do is hang in there and visit this support group. I've not been with them long or regularly but it has really helped me to commiserate with people who really get it.
Hi Lovey!
"Commiserate" is a perfect description! ha! Has that root word of 'misery'! Speaking of that, with the cold, rain, low barometirc pressure and the car ride today, I feel like a prisoner of the Kathy Bates character of 'Misery'! ha!
Since 1981!
Hi SGoddess,
I have heard of the benefits of ingesting aloe, is there a certain kind you use? I'm trying to grab all the wisdom I can get from you gals on juicing! Thanks
Oh Maureen, that is such a long time! Who finally diagnosed you?
Salivary gland biopsy thanks to the Cleveland Clinic! Have an oral surgeon do the biopsy and not a dermatologist.
Sounds like very good advice!
I bought the Nutri-Bullet (yes, "as seen on TV!) after watching a long infomercial and follow the recipes in the book that comes with it and they mix fruits and veggies as well as adding almonds and other nuts. I add blueberries because they are high in antioxidants which is marvelous for joints and muscles. Proteins with proteins work together perfectly; beware of absolutes by anyone. I used to follow Dr. Mercola religiously until he started making "absolute" statements; only his Krill oil is any good, all the others don't work, etc. You must use what heals you from the inside out. Don't be afraid to experiment; if it helps you feel good and brings up your energy, drink it!!
Amen Goddess, thanks for all the tips! I appreciate your wisdom! I especially like the nut idea!
I agree…we are all individuals. I would probably never follow anyone completely/blindly etc as I have to listen to my body and instincts etc. re Aloe. I’ve been drinking a product called Aloe Glo most days. One a day. It has been a huge blessing for me. Totally soothing for my tummy!!! It use to be at my local WF store but now they have a diff Aloe drink much higher in sugar and calories. Boo! So, I’m ordering it on Amazon.
SGoddess. I drink Aloe Glo and greatly benefit from it. I too would like to know what aloe you use. Also, I have an aloe plant. Got it to use the aloe topically. Do you know if that sap from the plant can be ingested without any treatment? I’m going to look into it???
Aloe juice is good used inside and out. The unprocessed plant is high in vitamin C. You have to get used to the taste. I used to grow it until it got out of control. Attracts insects (even the good ones were peskt.) Got tired of keeping it in check. It's very, very good for you. Great for the skin too. You just reminded me that I should grow some, now that I'm living in an apartment. Thanks, haven't thought about it in a long time.
You got to hold on.
The Nutri-Bullet let's you keep all the veggies and fruits, you don't lose anything, keeping all the nutrients! I'm love this little machine!!
I get Aloe Farms Aloe Vera Juice - it's organic and certified; 4oz per 12oz of my Green Drink Plus. This is truly one product that I can't live without; love it!
Maybe we should start a 'juicing' group, so we can find all of this info, what do you think?
I have tried blending but can't stand the texture much less the taste. I did start out adding some fruit to my juices until I got used to the taste. Green apple goes well with vegetables and really helps the flavor. Also some lemon and ginger help but will exacerbate any soreness in your mouth. I use a lot of celery and cucumber with the greens, and recently have been adding anise (fennel bulb). I have been occasionally adding just enough pineapple for flavor and add fresh turmeric when I can find it at the health food store.
Try oil pulling for your sore mouth. It really works.
