Anyone else have issues with night sweats? I can't sleep if I'm hot so I keep it cool in the bedroom and layer blankets so I can add or remove as needed, plus I freeze my poor husband if I don't give him the option. I sleep in boxers and a tank top mistress of the time, if it's really cold weather, then it's shorts and a t-shirt and maybe socks. I wake up soaked, my entire side of the bed is wet even if I'm only covered with a sheet, but I freeze when I get out of bed. I'd attribute it to being 40, but I've had this on and off my whole life. My younger sister and I would even "bleach" out our sheets and pjs from sweating when I was a child. The doctor told my mom it was from high acidity in our blood. I started having the problem of night sweats every night a few weeks ago and I'm not bleaching anything out, but it's getting old...
That sounds pretty intensive. Sorry to hear you are dealing with that. I have gone through some odd stretches with SS but not anything that bad. I am hoping some of the others will have some clues for you. Please keep us posted if they figure things out.
That sounds really unpleasant to deal with. I get night sweats now pretty badly when I am sick, even when I don’t have a fever. I am not sure if that started when I got really symptomatic with SS, or when I started on pilocarpine (Salagen), which my rheumatologist says has a potential side effect of sweating. I started on the meds about a year after my symptoms got really bad, but I only really started taking note of the night sweats recently. When I’m sick is the only time I get them, though. And I would guess since your sister has it too and may or may not have SS then it might be something else? Maybe ask your doctor now, they might have a different answer than just blood acidity, or be able to give recommendations about the blood acidity if that is the cause. I wish I could be of more help, but I can relate to soaking your bed every night for a week: I have pneumonia and have been sweating it up for over a week. No fun, so I empathize.
I have research this in my not pre menopausal state. I was finding a NO night sweats correlation and asked my Rheumy just last week.
1. Sjogrens people are dry. This can lead to fungus invading our system.
2. Olive leaf extract (that I take 2 of daily-no more than that though) fight fungus.
3. I had been taking Olive Leaf extract since Nov 2014. I get it through the health food store. I did not sweat when I took it. I sweated when I did not take it.
4 I dress like you do and open my window to the 20-30 degree weather to keep my room at 60 degrees.
I’m going to try olive leaf and extract. Is it a pill or liquid. How much do you take. I get horrible “hot flash episodes” off and on all day. I had a hysterectomy 35 years ago and my flashes were long gone. I have been on pilocarpine for several years but these flashes have only been the past 6 months or so. I’m hoping the extract will help.
I have hot flashes from my prednisone throughout the day and night, but since my dose is lower now, there aren't as many. Did your doctor check your thyroid? I have GERD and take the strongest med for this, and previously, I never has any hot flashes except when I was in my 40's. I am 70 now..
I have had night sweats for years but never attributed them to Sjogren’s. It does make sense though. Thanks for enlightening me. I have been accused of keeping my apartment like an igloo. I run an air conditioner in my bedroom constantly winter and summer in addition to the central air conditioning in order to sleep without burning up. I still get night sweats, but at least I can cool off quickly! I guess it is just another inconvenience that we have to live with. Hopefully our loved ones will continue to put up with us.
The night sweats are horrible. No matter how cool I keep it, I wake up drenched. them freeze because my mattress, gown and pillow are wet. Nights seem to last forever....knew Olive Leaf extract was good for Leaky Gut, and have some somewhere.
Personally, I think Leaky Gut and food sensitivities, i.e. gluten or other, causes all of these terrible auto immune conditions and other diseases, mostly caused from imflamation.
Olive Leave Extract that I take, comes in capsule form. I take 1-2 a day with meals.
I agree with the gluten thought. I have to be careful when I take my meds to keep my stomach in balance as well.
Before my health tsunami Nov 2014, I had no symptoms for any stomach, energy, or apparent health issues. 5 dx later....

Hello Every one
Please speak with your doctor before taking any thing over the counter. Some vitamins and exctract's can interfer with meds.
I've been experiencing night sweats for a little over a year now. It happens about once a month. I just figured that they were due to me being Peri-menopausal.
