Hi, went to the Dermatologist on Friday. Her response to my bruising was that it was probably due to sun damage. This may be true but I will check again when I go to the Rheumatologist on 4/1. It seems to me that after being diagnosed with SS it has gotten much worse. It could be my age (66) too. Whatever it is it is very embarrassing. The Derm. said she didn't think the vitamin K will do anything. I will also ask the Rheumy about vitamin K as well. I'll keep you all posted.
Do you take plaquenil? One of the side effects is easy bruising. I am also 66 and I am very fair so bruising has always come easily to me.
Yes I take 200 mg 2xs a day. I too am fair skinned and blonde. I have never been told plaquenil causes bruising. I will talk to my Rhumy in April. Please tell me if you think the plaquenil is helping you in any way. Is it supposed to help the joint pain, the exhaustion or what. So far I don't feel that much difference. I also take tramadol 50mg 2xs a day. My diagnosis was 2/14, it should have done something by now don't you think.
I don't wait for them to tell me about side effects -I google the drug to find out. When I started taking the plaquinil, I couldn't eat for months. I finally got a generic I could tolerate but it was a bad few months.
I can't say that any ofthe drugs have helped. I was diagnosed maybe four years ago and frankly I am worse. More body aches and fatigue. And the monitoring by sn opthsmologist because plaquenil can be damaging to the retina.
Right now I am concerned about the fatigue and pain but doubt there is anything that can be done.
Hi Susieq
Vitamin K isn't 1 vitamin it is in fact in 3 forms which are different come from different sources and have differing effects.
I think it may be a good idea to ask you rh'tologist/ primary medic about vitamin K2 as it is very different from K1 and appears in some clinical trials to have vascular and bone formation benefits .
Please discuss with them before trying it to get their advice as only they know your medical history

Thanks I will add that to the list of concerns when I go to the Rhumy.
I have had really bad bruising too, if I knock my self wow you should see it When I got and injection once with a blunt neddle the bruise was massive I have tanned skin in the summer and do not take medication,,, and have suffered from bruising like this just after I got really sick when I was 14,,, just thought I would add this to the thread
Hey... if it helps, it takes a few months for Plaquenil to take hold but once it does it helps somewhat with joint pain and a lot with fatigue. It should help slow the progression too, so even if it seems to be holding steady the drug MAY be helping if from getting worse. I go through bouts of bruising massively. I've always run a little anemic so I up my red meat and dark leafy greens for a bit. I have been on other supplements but not on K. You may want to talk to a doc about that first. Taking it directly isn't a good thing in combination with some of the other meds I am on. It pays to check it out.
Well, what do you know? I would have thought age as well, but I'm not a Dermatologist!
I know my late mother in law grew all kinds of berries, and when she worked out with the plants, she bundled up and covered up head to toe, and in her later years her skin was as thin as tissue paper?
I could NEVER have worn all of those clothes with the hot humid summers we have, but she swore that they helped keep out the heat!
