Annoyed

So I’m in the ER for some mystery abdominal pain and I tell the ER dr that I have sjogrens, his response “so you just put some drops in your eyes and you’re good, right” ummm no that’s not exactly it. I don’t think give people chemo for dry eyes but yeah ok whatever you want to think.

Thank goodness for my amazing neurologist and rheumatologist who know what sjogrens can do to a persons body!

Ugh. That's so frustrating. That just shows a complete lack of understanding.

That's so scary to me considering he was working front line in the ER.

Glad that at least you do have understanding doctors looking after you normally! Hope you're soon feeling better and that they find out what the problem is! Let us know how you get on.

Did you ever find out what your abdominal pain was caused from? I about a month ago was in er for same thing but couldn’t get any answers either.

It's surprising how many specialists & PCP's don't know much about Sjogren's and/or the systemic manifestations. It seems they should say they know little about it, then ask the patient to describe it for their own understanding & information to later check out for themselves. If the ER doctor knew a little about the systemic involvement, they would have known about the common abdominal pain & upset.

I never got a difinitive answer. As Mimi said, I think it was just a common sjogrens symptom.

It very well may have been Sjogren's if ER Drs. didn't find any other cause. I have almost constant stomach pain & other stomach issues due to Sjogren's. Unbelievable what it can do to us. Not a fun life, but we'll all encourage one another for strength.
