Biologics

abatacept (Orencia)
adalimumab (Humira)
certolizumab (Cimzia)
etanercept (Enbrel)
golimumab (Simponi)
infliximab (Remicade)
rituximab (Rituxan)
tocilizumab (Actemra)

I was asked what Biologics I had taken of the above list:
Remicaid first 3 years worked but gave me chemically induced lupus.
Orencia was on but didn’t work.
Actemera was on but it didn’t work
Rituxan about four weeks ago had two 1000mg transfusions two weeks apart which took five hours each time.
I feel no result at all, had to increase my prednisone due to pain…

I’m so frustrated due to lack of response of these drugs.
Pain and fatigue have been increasing and I’ve about given up hope.

Hi Kquixtar,

That must be really hard having nothing working and your pain and fatigue increasing.
It must be so difficult to be hopeful , I hope this doesn’t sound like a stupid question, have the medical professionals looking after you got any other avenues in the future. My daughter has a medical condition where we had exhausted what was available to her for her to help and reduce pain and then we were told by the hospital a new medication was coming out in the future and that she may have been able to have it, but they would have to monitor her heart. Then after having our hopes raised we were called by the hospital to say that at the moment they felt she was so young they didn’t want to give it to her not yet. She was devastated and cried a lot for a few weeks. So although I can not ever know how hard this maybe for you. I just wanted to send all my good wishes and thoughts to you. I know that’s not much help but I just had to reply because I really feel for you.

That’s really frustrating. You already know that it takes time to see if the medication is working. The good news is that there are now different classes of biologics, so maybe the TNF inhibitors don’t work for you, but the new kind will.

Thanks that is a great article…

I have already asked my doctor to change to that drug.
