So, I decided to grow my hair out again after getting a short pixie cut for the first time ever. My health has gotten worse over the last year. As it’s been growing out, I’ve been keeping it up a lot. Now, I make sure I treat it right…wear it up when I’m sleeping so, it doesn’t break as easily…never brush it when it’s wet…when I do brush, I brush from the bottom up and I never wash it every day.
At any rate, I’ve noticed that, not only do I have my short hair …baby hair I gues you’d say, that never grows and is always frizzy, I’ve noticed that my hair had been breaking all over and I’ve got tons of frizzies!! So, I’ve started using some coconut oil on my hair and using some Pantene smoothing shampoo and their 3 minute miracle…but now I may wondering if I might have to keep short hair?
What’s y’all experience? Any tips? Am I doomed to the short hair life???
That’s frustrating. My hair does well overall but I can imagine how frustrating this is. It may just be the cycle of hair growth that you’re in, and you certainly could see a dermatologist who specializes in hair issues.
The other option certainly is to keep it short, but it would be nice to feel like it’s a choice.
I was breaking out in pimple–like spots on my scalp. Dermatologist said I had inflammed hair follicles.Scalp very dry. Gave me a med to put on. It helped. My hair is dry, brittle too. I started using nioxin shampoo . Its not falling out anymore and I do think its healthier. My scalp still itches though and get a break out occasionally. From what I read its the sjogerns doing its dirty work up there.
I would not be using Pantene as it made my daughter’s hair break. She had really long hair and now has shoulder length due to patene it is not good shampoo or conditioner. I know it is more expensive but I only use shampoo and conditioner from the salon I always buy it when it is on sale and buy the biggest bottle so it lasts months and months i also use a leave in conditioner in my hair and I also take a vitamin called hair skin and nails.which since I have been taking it my hair does not fall out heaps. I also use heat treatment spray in my hair of I am straightening my hair.it can cost a bit of money but worth it
I’m a big fan of taking a prenatal vitamin every day. It has everything you need for healthy hair and nails. I started taking one about 20 years ago to help with the side effect of hair loss from a migraine med and found it to be of great help. It also gave me a fantastic set of finger nails to decorate.
I also suggest NOT washing your hair. Shampoo dries it out and makes it break. If you stop washing your hair completely your natural hair oils will reset in two to three weeks (you may need a hat during that time!). Once the natural oils have reset you’ll find doing “100 brush strokes a night” like the days of old really does work to clean your hair. You won’t need as much product, if any, and you’ll be able to lightly wash your hair once week – use something gentle like baby shampoo. It will overall be more healthy.
I’m on B vitamins and CBD oil because I don’t absorb Bs well. The cbd is because I cannot have anti-inflammatories…the omegas seem to be growing my eyelashes and nails healthier than ever so hoping it will be the same with hair.
Interesting comment about Pantene. I had been using Nexus for a long time and my hair was doing great. I switched to Pantene because it happened to be cheaper and my head keeps getting very itchy. Wondering now if that is why… Hmmmmm.
I have heard by many people that the same thing happened to their hair using Pantene! Falling out and bad breakage. And I had a hair stylist tell me once that it was the absolute worst product for your hair.
How are you doing with Sjogren’s Syndrome situation right now?
I am not officially dx yet but have 2 docs saying they feel sure that I have it.
I have the same problem. And it makes my head very itchy. I use Nexxus. Its worth paying a little more for… and in bulk at Costco, not bad at all. The difference in my hair health is noticeable.
(Plus lots of Omega 3’s.)
