I got thrush after getting breathing treatments and taking Advair in the hospital. In a day and a half it was everywhere so I went to the ER for the thrush but I was also having stabbing pains in my lower left lung. The ER doc prescribed Nystatin. It didn’t bother me too much but it ran out before my appt with my rheumatologist. I read online that rinsing your mouth with warm salt water was good. So I did that and ate plain Greek yogurt for a couple of days.
When I saw my rheumatologist she thought Nystatin wasn’t a good treatment because it works too slowly for Sjogren’s patients. She prescribed an aggressive dose of Sporanox (generic: Itraconazole). She has me taking 400 mg a day (200 in am and 200 in pm for a month.
I’m imagining that you’re getting thrush because your on some asthma medication or inhaler and possibly antibiotics? Some antibiotics can cause yeast infections as well. There are some OTC options at pharmacies you can try. My doctor recommended getting throw-away tooth brushes when you have an outbreak or maybe invest in a toothbrush sanitizer. Hope this helps!
I got thrush for the first time last month, used my swish and spit Nystatin. The doctor I saw told me to use ALL of it or I would just get thrush all over again. I did find an article online though that suggested Diflucan and gargling with baking soda water. Oh and taking a good Probiotic once a day and 2 Vitamin C's. So I've been going that route and it seems to be helping.
I found the Nystatin awful on the stomach. Diflucan is really bad for the liver. So the probodic and Vitamin C sound really good as a preventative?.Each of us is so different as to side effects of drugs. Thanks for the suggestions.
Spit that nasty Nystatin out of your mouth when you are done-- I stand there and spit a couple of times till that nasty stuff is gone. I’ve been told to use it for 7 to 10 days too.
