I had an exceptionally hard time during childbirth. They had to take my son 2 weeks early b/c I became...I forget what it's called now. I'm talking about when your feet start to get dangerously swollen. I also was diabetic during my pregnancy. I ended up having an emergency C-section.
I think the word you are looking for is Preeclampsia. I had all kinds of problems when I was pregnant, both times. I probably had SS since I was young, though. I’m not sure if SS played a part in my pregnancies though, but I was always thirsty, and craved dirt, and raw potato pills(also known as Pica.)
Thankfully my biological clock is dead. I had a hysterectomy when I was 24, but took YEARS to stop wanting babies. Anyway, I can’t really say any of my problems were caused by SS. It probably would have helped knowing I had it, though.
Are you planning on having another baby soon?
No way...LOL! My son is 25 yrs old now. This was back in the days.
LOL I’m 46 now. I can’t imagine having another baby now. Scary!
I'm going to be 54 in July. I'm only accepting grandchildren now..lol. Even though I don't have one yet: (
LOL I don't have one either. Although my son is 28 and my daughter is 25. Both of them are not ready for children. I do want a grandchild, but not yet.
Coming to think of it, when I had my HUGE son, I was not able to breast feed him because my milk had dried up. It was really weird because my breast got huge during my pregnancy???
My son was huge as well. But he had to go into the NICU, because I carry the strep virus, and jaundice. Since I’ve ALWAYS drank a lot of water, I was able to feed him and had so much milk that the nurses at the NICU were using my milk for other babies.
When my daughter was born she was 6 1/2 weeks early. I was still able to breast feed her as well, but because of AIDS, I wasn’t able to share my milk.(I don’t have AIDS I’m just talking about the time line in life) I remember my stepmom and dad actually almost bawling me out because I drank so much water. They thought it was unhealthy. Lol I think I was able to breast feed because of the sheer amount of water I drank. When it came time to ween them, it was too easy, I just dried up really fast.
Any other women had/have trouble breast feeding?
I had preeclampsia when I had my son also. It's funny because they used to think that if you had trouble during the pregnancy it would cause you problems later in life. Now they know its the opposite….you get preeclampsia when there are already existing issues.
I also have heart problems that run through the family. There is a definitive link there. Kidney problems are also prevalent in people with that condition. So many things related to SS but it could also be a lot of other things too.
Gotta love this mystery disease of ours….hard to tell sometimes what is related and what is a stand-alone problem.
Wow, that is scary!
Yes it is.....I was rushed into the hospital with a BP of 141/110. Very close to a stroke at 23 years old. It is likely more related to the heart issue rather than anything else, though. And even now (at 45 years old) I'm on BP medicine that specifically protects the kidneys. However, it doesn't appear to have any relation to the SS, for once. LOL
Something NOT related to SS? Is that possible? However, your heart condition could be related to SS, if your mother had SS or another autoimmune condition, and you were born with heart problems. On the other hand, we really do get other health issues, too, but, goodness, SS and all of the autoimmune posse are such time suckers.
Both of my sons were huge, too. The smaller of the two was 9lb 14 oz, and the other was 10lb. 6 oz, but he was a little early. I had problems with breast infections. I still nursed, but I remember thinking that for someone with distinctly bovine proportions in that area, it really should have been easier!!

ROFL I love it!! I was of the "bovine" influence as well. Engorged wasn't just a word, it's what I was, the whole time I breast fed. The nurses were afraid I would smother my son at first. I was 17 when I had my son, and they just thought I would be a bad mother. (rolls eyes) I couldn't love my kids more! Sadly, my daughter, who is 25 now, did not get the bovine influence. She has my mothers genes. She is upset. LOL
That's okay, Fascina. Your daughter will have less to go south as she ages. My sis and I are built so differently, you would wonder that we are related except our voices are so similar. She once told me that Mom bought her a "mercy bra."
