Good morning. I just received some of the results from labs that were drawn on Monday (posted below). Of course, I couldn't help jumping on the internet to find out what the results meant. I know SS puts us at an increased risk of lymphoma, so seeing that my lymphocytes are outside the normal range has me a tad bit concerned (although my rheumy said that the #s look good to him). This is all relatively new to me, so I wanted to know if others have had lymph #s that have been (high) outside the normal range and if your doctor was concerned at all. Should I expect for my labs to be "all over the place" from now on? TIA!

Thats a very normal blood count (for us). You should be "proud" LOL
The lymphocytes is an interesting thing There is two numbers one is total WBC you are very normal there even on the low side a touch for having an autoimmune disease. The number that is high is the lymphocyte percentage. But that is only relative to your total WBC. Your percentage is within normal limits. Lymphocytes are actually T-cells, B-cells, and natural killer (NK) cells If they are high it usually indicates a viral infection.
The lymphoma thing. It really has nothing to do with lymphocytes but with the lymph system itself. In a case of lymphoma the lympocyte count will be low not high (high lymphcyte count along with other WBC can indcate other cancers IF the bonemarrow counts are high)
The chance of NHL (Non Hodgkins Lymphoma) is 7 times higher with PRIMARY Sjogrens (secondary is the same as the general population) This means your chances of NHL is still really really low 2 of a 1000 will develop NHL in their lofe meaning 14 in 1000 with Primary SS will develop NHL. But here is the funny thing 5 year survial rate for SS patrients with NHL are about 85% as opposed to 60% for the general population. This is likely because it is usually discovered in its localized rather than regionalized state.
Anyway hope this is helpful
Thanks so much for the information tj1! I am amazed & truly appreciative of your vast knowledge!
