Follow up with Ophthalmologist

Tomorrow I am going to the eyedoc a month after eye surgery to treat me for glaucoma. He put me on eyedrops I take once at bedtime.

There is something I want to ask him about ....I have a band of white matter that is floating around in my eye..I can't see anythng in the mirror....but when I blink my eye it moves. It is blurry around it. I wonder if it's a loose piece of eye tissue (IS there such a thing?) that was loosened by the surgery. It is not a floater. It is more dense than that and it is white, not clear....Also it is bigger than a floater. My appointment is tomorrow. Any idea of what questions I should be asking in my appointment tomorrow?

It seems as though a big floater "could" appear white, no? Definitely let us know what happens with your eye appointment.

I am very interested on your eye situation. I have early glaucoma in one eye. Dr. prescribed Lantanaprost drops once a day. I wonder how this will irritate my already " itchy, burny eyes " from Sjogrens!!! Dreading starting them. There are a LOT of side affects also. Has anyone used this drop or any other you could tell me about?? I’m really stressed over this.

What was the update from the eye doctor? Did he say anything about the trouble you're having? Or is it off to further testing now?

Hi Patti,

My doc only prescribed one drop (initially he also gave me some steroid drops). The only one I take now is Latanaprost.I've never had any problems with it.He told me it may burn a little but I never noticed a burning. I would take it and not worry about it.

I went to see him last week.He called the foggy white things floaters. He said they can cause nerve damage but mine don't seem to have done that.He said my ducts (the ones he put in with the laser) are still open. All in all, he was very pleased. He said we may have caught it in time before any great damage was done. He said if I ever see flashing lights to go to the ER immediately.I have to go back in one month for another field vision test to see if I have any blank spots. (they did this test once before....they just want to see if it changed)

So overall, it sounds as though it's good news. That's a lot of monitoring though. Not my favorite test, the field vision test, but it does give good information.

I really appreciate your input!! The side affects I read included infections in the eye, change of color of your eye to brown ( mine are blue/ green !!!) , heart issues. OMG!!! Scares me to death. Have you ever heard of anyone having these?? Have you gotten pink eye or anything from the?? How long have you used them??
I also have floaters in my eyes. They appear dark to me, however. Can be annoying, but nothing to worry about is what my doctor said. Sounds like it won’t be an issue for you either!! I’m ver happy for you.
Thanks again for your input!!!
Patti

hi Patti

Gosh...I don't know that I'm willing to have brown eyes. My eyes are bright blue...my best feature. And infections?? blech.

Stoney was your question just now directed to me or Patti.

IF it was to me: the doc was pleased with how things are going. He said we may possibly have caught it in time before I lose vision. However he said if I see lights flashing to go to the ER Immediately. Well of course today I had flashing lights. But I convinced myself that they were just those weird floaters having reflections on them. That wasn't a very satisfactory explanation because that is not what it looked like. However they did become infrequent and now I just have a dull pain in my eyes.

I sure hope your situation is alright!!!
I’m like you---- my eyes are part of “who I am” . Not looking to change them!!
Patti

It was to you. I wanted to hear your followup. Thanks for the response.

My last eyedoc appointment was less positive. He did a vision field test which showed definite vision loss...and my eye pressures were back up...even despite the ducts he'd put in. I go back on the 18th and he's going to recheck me and come up with a plan of action

I hope that your eyes heal quickly and completely, Qadosh, with no further problems!

I have been putting off an eye exam for years, but my drivers license is up for renewal this summer, and I need new glasses, so the procrastination will soon end.

I am boarderline Glaucoma, so, I'll be catching the 'lecture', I'm sure!

Just so many Doctor appointments already!

Yesterday I had another appointment with the eye doc. They took pictures with a special camera that can look inside the eye. It showed that my eye pressures had not gone down as the ophthalmologist thought that they had. As he was looking at the pictures he asked me if I have MS. I said "no" and then he asked me if I had any kind of arthritis. I told him I have Psoriatic Arthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogrens.(I had told him that before but I guess he forgot) ....Anyway he could tell that something like that was up from the pics of my eyes. Now I can go back in two months instead of one month as it has been for the past year.

Hi Qadosh, I guess I'll be hearing the same thing, I have PsA.

They had suspected my best friend had MS, and finally referred her to a Doctor at the top of her field in Baltimore, I drove her and she finally had a confirmed diagnosis of MS. Her biggest problem is with her eyes and generalized fatigue. Another friend of ours was dxed with MS, and her biggest problem is with her motor skills.

I have had 3 MRIs of the brain, as they still suspect MS or SLE in addition to PsA Sjogren's, Raynauds and of course Fibro. My Dad and all of his sibs had Glaucoma, so I've been boarderline since 30 when I needed my first pair of glasses!

I hope that you get some good news in 2 months!

Wishing you well,

SK
