Lipiflow procedure for dry eyes

Has anyone ever had lipiflow done, my ophthalmologist wants me to have it done, apparently it’s a procedure to clear the meibomian glands. My insurance won’t cover it, it’s going to cost me about $800.00. I’ve researched it and it seems pretty costly for what it does. My doc says it could really be a game changer. Any thoughts?

I have heard of it but it is not something offered by my eye doctor. I would be using other strategies first, including warm compresses. What are you currently doing? Are you using warm compresses? Daily lid scrubs?

I have just recently started doing the warm compresses 2 or 3 times a day and lid scrubs the last week or so. Not sure if it’s helped much,. Kinda sad cause every time I think I might be feeling better I get kicked in the sack. I’m back to ground zero. Work is the hardest for me…thinking about quitting my job, but I can’t afford to cause I have a kid to support and bills out the yazoo

lacricert, preservative free eye drops otc, flaxseed oil, daily 50mg doxycycline and what I was told works the best is plasma eye drops.

Hi Givemestrength! Did you make a decision about lipiflow? If you decide to go ahead with it I would love to hear about your results.

Well I fired my original opthamologist he pretty much sucked, and starting seeing a optometrist who specializes in dry eyes. He has me doing the warm compresses twice daily with occu scrub wipes, he also expresses my glands in the office and gave me a script for Aza site . I also added cliradex wipes into the formula. I have another appt with a new opthamologist this coming Tuesday and they also do the lipiflow procedure, @1200. So we’ll see how it goes, I’m at the point were money is no object as my eyes are so bad it’s ruined my life. If I don’t get better soon ima have to quite my job, then I lose my insurance… Can’t do that…
Today I actually saw a Chinese nature path acupuncture herbalogist . He gave me some Asian pills and also gave my messed up back a solid work over with massage and acupuncture . I gotta say my back feels better. He seemed to think that my body’s problem is related to my kidneys. I know I’m reaching out but I’m at my ropes end , I figure what can it hurt

I also was recommended lipi flow but am hesitant to try it because I have read very mixed reviews. I am doing bion tears, hot compresses 3-4 times per day and lid scrub. I also use night gel. My eyes are agony and this symptom has rendered me unable to work at the moment. Does anyone have as other suggestions? Thanks!!

Ok to sum up my lipi flow experience .I didn’t think it really helped and was a complete waste of money, same results could be done with hot compresses and gentle massage… Unless you have money to spare save it… Also price is pretty much a rip off for what is done… This price is super inflated and it really angers me that these places want to rip off people in such dyer need. As word spreads that this procedure is not as beneficial as made to believe the price is going to drop. Just my 2cents.

My dry eyes come and go, but I still use the ointment. I’m just sorry that you got ripped off 800.00.

My daughter had lipiflow (23yrs old). It did help to resolve her horrible chilazion issues and her lids cleared up. It did not however result in the return of moisture.
