I am having an absolute crap year. It started on the 9th April, when I was taken to ED by ambulance, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis given antibiotics and pain meds and sent home. Two days later was back with sever lower abdominal pain and admitted, a few days later an ultra sound showed a mass on my left ovary. The Dr's focused then on this and a few weeks later I had surgery to remove the mass, ovary and fallopian tubes, the right ovary was left and I had a previous hysterectomy. After my discharge the pain continued to get worse, 4 admissions later, and several ultra sounds and CT Scans the focus finally went back to Diverticulitis and a fistula that had formed between the bowel and vagina. I had emergency surgery 12 days ago where the diseased part of my bowel was removed and a stoma and colostomy bag put in place. Luckily this will only be for 4-5 months while the bowel heals and then will be reversed. I will likely be on laxol for the rest of my life. My LFT's keep on getting deranged due to the meds, and have to have weekly blood tests and regular ultra sounds to keep an eye on my liver. Has any one else had problems like this.
Hi Bones, we know all about bowel problems, surgery, colostomy, reversal surgery, fistulas etc in my household so I just wanted to dip in and say to you this will get better. It's not a quick fix but you will get through it and I hope, like us, come out the other side with very good results. Take some time while you're laid up to look into diet as this really can make a HUGE difference. There are also quite a few good websites with information and support for colostomy/ileostomy patients and also check out Crohns and Colitis sites as well.
Wishing you a speedy recovery from this most recent surgery.
My mom had the same surgery on her bowels but the dr never gave her a bag to let her bowels heal causing an infection and needless to say it didn’t end well and she now lives in a nursing home living on IV antibiotics for life but at least shes off life support. Thank God your doctor did it right i know 6 people that had it done with way you did and although it’s a long road everyone of them healed beautifully and feel better than they ever did before the surgery so just remember when you are feeling down your doctor did it right and it will all be worth it in the end.((hugs))
Did anyone ever connect this to your Sjogrens? I just had an esophageal endoscopy and the Dr. said there was a lot of fluid in the esophagus which she attributed to Sjogrens. Jaycee
Thank you for your kind words and support.
