Much of the world had it's first arctic blast this morning! We all have different tricks to keep ourselves our warmest, please share yours with us!
Before changing clothes, I throw them in the dryer a few minutes, that way instead of being damp and cold, they are dry and warm. I also do this with the blankets before going to bed!
UGG’s are a necessity! If I can keep my feet warm, I can stay warm easier.
I am going to take a funny approach to this one...Move to Florida!
Just joking. In all seriousness, we have issues with over use of AC and the few days where we have cold fronts and no-one wants to turn on the heat.
To the office, I have started keeping a warm wool shawl that I can use to either cover my legs or wear around the shoulders. I also have wool gloves with tips that will work my mobile devices. If really cold, I will put those on.
When at home, I have light wool layers that I wear. My favorites are Smartwool and Icebreaker. They are light enough that they are OK in warmer weather but they are a nice base layer if you have to.
Again, sorry I could not resist. We are enjoying nice weather after a sweltering summer.
I use cuddle duds and it helps me. I am a layer girl. Plus I always have a scarf around my neck inside and out. I understand because I am always cold.
If it’s very cold I have the heating on high and wear a hat and gloves indoors. I find if I can manage to keep warm indoors it helps when I need to go out. If I’m cold before I go out I just get colder and colder.
Heat Wraps. …the ones with the little discs. I use them for my back pain and they are awesome on cool days. They wrap around under your clothes and it’s like a heating pad on all day…mmm! Don’t sleep in them though as I wake creaky the next morning because the muscles are too relaxed. They are comfortable and couldn’t make it without. Available at both Sam’s and Costco.
Lots of layers - LOTS of layers...clothing layers, bedding layers. I have two sizes of clothing - one for summer and oversized for winter.
I have a type of mattress pad that is heated so I don’t feel weighted down by quilts and blankets (no down or feathers…allergies). Large sizes of these have dual controls. Also, I would rather be dressed warmly than have the heat high. That is just WAY too dry for me! Over the years I have collected many cashmere sweaters including a few sweater sets. They are soft and warm. I know it sounds like a luxury, but I spend ZIP $$$$ on eating out, travelling (prohibited by docs), sweets of any kind (POISON for me), manicures, ETC!
Kind of related…After that stroke last month I am really into stress reduction. I am now listening to my favorite Christmas music and starting to decorate for Christmas. Others are doing all the big holiday get togethers! Have a warm & wonderful season!
Hugs all around!
Handwarmers you get from the drug store last for 7 hours. I stick them in my gloves.
Anything with fleece is also warming. I get mine from Lands End. They have great colors.
Cashmere scarves are the best. I also get fleece from cagoule.
Keep warm,
2akl
It's 2akl again,
I stated that I get my fleece from cagoule. I meant cagoulefleece.com
Unfortunately they have moved from Oregon to Santa Cruz and have not been able
to find a location. Their fleece is made from recycled materials. I think plastic bottles but I am not sure.
Their hats and gloves are great. Keep checking the site to see when they will be able to ship.
Hello fellow Sjogren’s ERS. Keeping warm, and keeping the chills at bay is or was an ongoing challenge. Hot herbal teas, warm fleece wide hand bands, collar fleece warmers, long legging filled with rice and tied on ends microwaved made warm cozy couch buddies-a favorite!
I highly recommend a cat on the lap and a pair of fuzzy slippers!
Hi 2akitalover, You mention clothing made from recycled plastic bottles, I have to tell you that I bought a front porch rug made out of this material, it was great until it got wet, and was then like a sheet of ice! Needless to say, it's rolled up in the basement waiting to be sold as a yard sale deal!

Ii love this....I generally go with layers and a heater in my office but some of these suggestions are great!!!
I have no tips because I go from freezing to hot very quickly. It is rare when I can find a happy medium. Or my feet and hands are cold and the rest of me is hot. I also have one half hot while the other is cold. I don't get it but it happens.
I go from cold to hot, no matter the temp I wear fleece lined leggings, Ann Klein, then a light upper layer, adding another layer, if necessary. If I start sweating, I rush to sit under fan at full speed, until I dry gets really crazy sometimes. I like the idea of using the dryer to warm things up. My electric mattress pad is kaput. Tomorrow, I NEED to find another. It makes sleeping or resting very yummy
Heating this house that way, you're either too cold or too hot, so I am constantly putting on and taking off jackets or sweaters.
I've backed off the fleece and gone back to natural fabrics, except for my trench coat, and parka.
I found some thick merino wool socks that are fabulous, would like to have a dozen more pair of them, surprisingly, my feet don't sweat in them!
We are heading into summer down under, but I have the opposite problem, keeping myself cool. We have a wood burner fire and a heat recovery system in our fully insulated home and I find over winter I get to warm. I turn the fire down and the rest of the family freezes.
