Shingles

so my 13 year old was just diagnosed with shingles. I have had shingles before (looked different so I didn’t know that’s what hers was) I was touching it and putting cream on it before I knew what it was. Does her having it right now increase my chances of an outbreak?

If you've had it before yourself I don't believe that it does. Shingles is the reactivation in your own body of the dormant chickenpox (herpes) virus, so you have to have had chicken pox yourself to get shingles. It usually happens when your immune system is compromised either by medication, stress, other illness etc.

So shingles itself isn't infectious but anyone who has not had chickenpox can catch it from someone with shingles if they come in to physical contact with them. It's a particular risk for pregnant women.
