Just wanted to get this down fast as my memory is so-so lately. Just saw on TV that Colgate Total toothpaste is being touted as having a chemical in in it that may cause cancer. The chemical is called Tricolsan sp?.. Will look that up ASAP. Apparently, this chemical is sometimes found in toothpastes and this particular toothpaste is one of, if not the most popular toothpaste in the country. Animal studies are showing it as a carcinogen. I’m going to check my toothpaste. Fingers crossed it’s not in Biotin. Probably should check mouthwashes too. It’s FDA approved…federal dumb axx’s
No edit button? It’s called Triclosan. I doubt it’s in Biotene, but I’m still looking.
I think of all the hand sanitizers they now push on school kids, what ever happened to letting them WASH their hands?
I’ve recently started buying organic hand soaps and look for the least amount of nasty sounding stuff. Then I make sure I just wash my hands thouroughly and rather often. For example…always before eating and always after touching a grocery cart or after picking up my young grand child.
I had actually read reports in the past that Total was causing people problems as far as actually damaging taste buds, etc so I don't use it but I will be looking for that ingredient in my toothpaste. Yikes, the cure is worse than the disease.
I know what you mean, Nomad, I needed a paste for sensitive teeth, and the only kind they had was Colgate! UGH!
While we're on the toothpaste discussion, I must have just gotten a new Biotene toothpaste, it foamed up and burned just like the Colgate! So now I know why everyone is complaining about it!
I guess my next try is this one recommended by assybish, seems like it should cure all ills with us!
I’m going to check into that, SK.
. Is the tooth builder paste best for "us?"
BTW, I emailed Biotene and asked them if they have Triclosan in their toothpaste on August 11th and have yet to hear from them.
I'm not surprised, in the past I tried to find out where the denture adhesives are manufactured, and was totally ignored! Doesn't make you feel very secure!
I'm not sure which would be best, but I plan to try one of them!
Just got back from the store…big sale on all of the total toothpaste!!Separated into a cart (off the shelf) with a big sign “for sale”
"There's your sign", Nomad!
I want to mention that I ordered the Squiggle toothpaste (s) that someone mentioned and they are great One with flouride and one without. Got it from Amazon. Need to get on a routine. Not drying at all!!! Refreshing!!!And my mouth feels ultra clean!!!
Biotene still hasn’t answered my email. I think I’m going to like this product better, anyway.
Thank you!

Thank you! *I think it was Assybish who suggested it. Many thanks!!!
Strange… I don’t remember seeing this discussion in my e-mail but was drawn to it when I was looking for info on something else.
My dad worked for Colgates and we grew up using Colgate products including the toothpaste. I am about to be 63 and still use it with no problems related to the product. It is so frustrating that there is always something on the news about one product or another containing a cancer causing chemical. Frustrating, isn’t it?? Btw I still also use Biotene but my mouth never feels clean after brushing. I use a sonic toothbrush so you would think it would make a difference.
Think I am going to look into the other toothpaste that was mentioned. I am always open to a product that will clean my teeth AND keep it moist. Thanks.
Ya know I don’t know why the media zeroed in on Colgate with reference to that chemical. I don’t know if the other toothpastes are using less or had already taken it out, etc???
But, I saw a subsequent news report about Colgate and even got an email about it.
And of course now I’m wondering about Biotene because on their website they state that they try to answer any questions promptly, but they have not replied to that particular question Re the chemical. But, I can say the other toothpaste is very nice. Please go to the Squiggle website first. I ended up buying two different toothpastes…they have a routine. I need to go back soon and re read it.They do seem to encourage that you use both pastes, if you wish to use Flouride.
I just ordered Squigle too. I am already doing oil pulling and using a Sonic toothbrush, both of which make a noticeable difference but something more natural that helps with sensitivity would be a real blessing. I did what some of the others mentioned….buying one of each. BTW, I went with Amazon too. After shipping it was about the same and I trust Amazon as far as credit card info, etc.
Today, a Sunday and I think about 20 days from my original email , I did get a response from Biotene Toothpaste:
"We have received your e-mail on the website regarding Biotene Toothpaste.
None of our Biotene Toothpaste contain triclosan.
If we may be of future assistance, please call us at (800)-■■■■■■■■ weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET"
.....
So this is good news. I am glad they responded. I am enjoying the squiggle toothpaste though. I have some Biotene left and will still use it now and then.
On another site I go to, someone who says she is a dental assistant says to use a homemade paste consisting of: mixing baking soda (1 tablespoon) and coconut oil (2 tablespoons). Mix these two items together. Then mix in peppermint oil (5-10 drops). I thought I might try it....BUT sounds messy and I'm not sure it would be helpful for folks with dry mouth.
Delighted it helped _ I find them excellent - not sure I trust the claim to regenerate the enamel but not sure anything can. Sensodyne repair with novamin has best lab results and I find it fine to use but don't think you can get it in USA.
I mix all 3 daily and also add the prescription flouride from time to time to help.
It's in any product that is a cleaning product. It's used to clean car engines, etc. It is bad for you. Unfortunately, it is my opinion thaat our government started allowing chemicals into our "everything." Money talks...
I tried a baking soda mix. My lips paid for it big time. My lips dried out even worse than usual!!
